In a major boost to healthcare in Australia, the government has announced an investment of Aus$ 7.5 million into the research and development of artificial intelligence to be used in healthcare. The funds would be distributed in the form of grants to researchers through Medical Research Future Fund.
The government aims to improve the quality of healthcare in future using AI which will support aged care, disability services, and help create better health practices. These are the top three areas Australian government aims to bring about transformation of existing industries and building new ones. It also hopes to export such services to the medical world.
Acting Minister of Health, Anne Ruston said in a statement that the investment has the potential to maximise country’s to attract and retain high quality AI researchers and stay in forefront of AI worldwide.
