5 Home remedies for ear pain/earache

The best part of any earache is it goes away on its own. Only some require medications. Here are a few home remedies for earache.

Ear infections are quite common in winters. It is mostly because of bacteria, viruses, and fungi when trapped in the inner ear. Probable risk factors are cold, flu, allergies, and even smoking. But the best part is it goes away on its own and only in some conditions, the patient requires medication. Here are some natural remedies for ear infections listed down

Hot and cold compress – It is the safest option for both kids as well as adults. A hot or cold compress helps in improving blood circulation and eases the pain. You can place the ice pack or hot bag over the affected ear for around 10 minutes to relieve ear pain.

Garlic – It is one of the popular home remedies for ear pain. Garlic possesses anti-inflammatory properties which not only lower inflammation in and around the ear canal but also relieve congestion, thereby alleviating ear pain. To get relief, eat 2-3 raw garlic or use its crushed form. You can also use garlic oil available in markets.

Tea tree oil – This can reduce the pain and discomfort in the ear. The oil has powerful antifungal, antibacterial, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties. For effective results, you need to mix a drop or two of this oil with a teaspoon of base oil such as sesame oil, olive oil, or coconut oil, mix properly and put 2 drops in your ear. 

Clove – Clove has analgesic (pain-relieving) and anti-inflammatory (reduce inflammation) properties which help in soothing ear pain and treating an ear infection. You can put clove oil 3-4 times a day for 3 days.

Tulsi – As per Ayurveda, Tulsi leaves are best for ear pain. Leaves are full of anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and immunomodulatory properties, which not only helps relieve ear pain but can also improve symptoms of ear infection. Crush a few Tulsi leaves, strain the juice, put 1-2 drops of this in-ear to relieve pain.
