Athelas Inc. raises $132 million and reaches valuation of $1.5 billion

Remote patient monitoring startup, Athelas has raised $132 million across 2 funding rounds. This brings its valuation to a whopping $1.5 billion. General Catalyst and Tribe Capital led one of the financing rounds. The other investors in this startup are Sequoia Capital, YCombinator, Greenoaks, Human Capital, Initialized Capital and Georges Harik. 

Athelas was founded by Deepika Bodapati and Tanay Tandon in 2016. They raised $15 million in their Series A round and $72 million in their Series B round. In 2017, they had received seed funds of $3.7 million.

The startup’s flagship product is Athelas One which is an FDA approved product. It is a finger prick solution to check one’s blood metrics like WBC count. They also have devices that track other metrics like weight, blood pressure and sugar levels. Their device PillTrack helps track whether the patients have taken their pill or not. With such remote monitoring devices, they aim to cut down hospitalization rates. 

It has since achieved 20,000 patients. Pandemic helped boost their growth. They partnered with Horizon Family Medical Group in New York to monitor immunocompromised and chronic hypertensive patients. They have also partnered with the California State Hospital system to provide monitoring of schizophrenia patients.
