Advanced Coolsculpting technology selectively reduces fat from anywhere in the body

▴ Massachusetts General Hospital Laboratory
The method uses a safe, injectable ice solution or slurry, for targeting fat.

It’s an invention by Massachusetts General Hospital Laboratory, which is already credited for inventing cryolipolisis or Coolsculpting, a popular non-surgical method for reducing fat under the skin.

Though not yet approved to be used on humans, the technology is designed to remove fat in the abdomen or other pats of the body. The procedure is doe using a hypodermic needle. The patient needs to sit for an hour for enough heat to diffuse from the fat underneath the skin. It’s just one-minute procedure which is performed by giving the patient a simple injection. The patient can go home and the fat gradually disappears.

The procedure was performed on pigs and the results were encouraging. Injection of the ice solution into pigs resulted in 55% reduction in fat thickness compare to that of pigs injected with the same but melted ice solution. No damage to the skin or the muscles was observed at the site of the injection.
